1 Description

Chef Koochooloo is a technological platform that teaches kids Global Competency and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) through cooking healthy international recipes, via dynamic educational apps, interactive services, and engaging curriculum. We have been endorsed and funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), our solution is used by 30 schools in 30 schools in California.

Our business model is B2B2C, selling to schools who sell it to parents. On average each school is willing to spend a recurring $10K/year.

2 Innovation

Chef Koochooloo is an NSF-funded, patent-holding online learning platform that teaches math, science, literacy and global competency through a gamified cooking mobile platform. We have a consumer mobile MVP launched on native platforms on iOS and Android, and a school web platform built on HAXE technology.

3 Market & Risk

In the education segment, there was a $90 Billion per year global market in 2017 and is expected to grow to $103 Billion by 2020. In the US,  the yearly educational expenditures were $12.8 Billion in K-12 public schools in 2015-2016 ($263 / student, per week) and is also expected to continue growing.

Chef Koochooloo is targeting a 0.26% market share in the US and 0.04% globally by reaching $47 Million students and 3,977 schools in 5 years.

Geographically, after scaling first to 750 schools across California and Massachusetts, then New York State and Texas, we will start targeting the entire US, with the goal of reaching 31,000 schools across the US by 2027. We are also planning to expand internationally into Latin America and China.

China represents a huge potential market, which has already signaled interest in our solution; we have been approached by various Chinese EdTech investors, as well as the Chinese government, and have onboarded Ding Dong TV as a promotional partner for bringing our product to the Chinese market.

4 Team & Operation

The idea behind Chef Koochooloo emerged in 2014, when 5-year-old *** Tarwé (cofounder of Chef Koochooloo) began attending Kindergarten in an economically disadvantaged school in Mountain View, CA and was constantly teased by her classmates for packing healthy nutritional meals, while most of the students received a complimentary school lunch comprised of hot dogs, chicken nuggets, chocolate milk, and fries. D's mother, ** Sabourian (the founder of Chef Koochooloo) decided to teach her about healthy recipes and cook with De***. De*** became an advocate for healthy international cooking in her school, and her teacher invited Layla to go and give the same talk to her classmates. Through continuous requests from D's school and other schools in Northern California, it became apparent that there was a dire need in schools for nutritional education. L left her job as a Marketing Executive in the high tech sector, to focus on developing and delivering a curriculum of healthy. In 2015, Chef Koochooloo launched a successful crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo raising 40k, and developed an iOs application to gamify the experience and facilitate the delivery of the lessons in a home and virtual setting.
